Sagas and The Series

Trying something new is always good, so I’m going to start with a list today.

Top 3 Flip-Flops That Annoy Me

3. John Kerry

Do I need to explain?

2. David Stern

In an interview he said that KeyArena was a great NBA arena, a few years later he allowed the Sonics to leave because it was below league standards.

And first place…

1. Brett Favre

It’s true, I do not believe Favre knew he would be back in the NFL this year until a couple days ago.  Last year, he knew.  This year he wanted to retire, but I think he was guilted into returning and felt he would be remembered better if he completed 20 seasons instead of foregoing his last contract year.  But if he is offered an extension…who knows?

The Favre saga has captivated the nation every summer since he first announced his retirement in Green Bay…only to return for another year, of course.  The Saga has reminded me of an annual event that the national media was captivated by: The Boston Red Sox.  Every year the question was: would the Sox finally break the Curse and win the Series?  It even led to Dr. Jack Shephard from LOST popularizing the sarcastic quote: “That will happen when the Sox win the Series” or something near that.  Seeing as the Sox did win the series, when a remake of this show is attempted I propose that the writers have Jack’s doppelganger say,”That will happen when Brett Favre retires.”

Yet another saga is beginning, the Carmelo Anthony Saga aka the Melo Saga.  Where will Melo end up? I have no clue.  Denver? New York? New Jersey/Brooklynn? New Orleans? Time will tell.  It looks like New York is his favorite, but the Russian could sway him, and he is CP3′s good bud.  More on this in the coming weeks.

The Series

Here are my predictions for the MLB Playoffs, starting with the AL.

Yankees

Rays

Twins

Rangers

I hope we see a Rangers-Twins AL final.  The Yanks are old news, and if the Rays make it the media will jump on their bandwagon as soon as the Yanks are gone.  Rangers-Twins represents a perfect storm for an unbiased media coverage.  Plus, I’m sick of hearing about AL East teams all the time.

NL Playoffs

Padres

Reds

Braves

Phillies

The Wild Card spot (Phillies) was a tough pick for me.  I wasn’t sure if I should pick St. Louis or Philly or any of the NL West teams.  I really feel the Reds will win the Central though.  After years of bad luck, they are so close they can taste it, while the Cards are used to making the playoffs pretty easily.  Desperation vs Expectation. Advantage: Desperation.  NL Finals matchup: Padres-Phillies.

World Series:  As much as I’d like to say the Padres make it, I don’t see it happening if everyone stays healthy in Philly.  As for the AL, I like the Twins because of Joe Mauer.  So we have Phillies-Twins.  Two freezing climates in November.  Rendering Roy Oswalt ineffective, and giving the Twins a slight advantage in my book.  Champs: Twins.

Coming soon: An NFL Season Preview.

Nice post! Like you, I would love to see teams make the playoffs that aren’t the Yankees or Red Sox, or any of those east coast teams that constantly grab media attention. I hope we see a fun matchup in October!

As a Nuggets fan I am disgusted by the way Carmelo is handling his situation. His behavior is making it very hard to even want him to stay in Denver.
